As a non-profit volunteers are what keeps our organization going! We need volunteers in all aspects of our business so even if you prefer to not work with horses we can put your talents to use!

  • Volunteer Barn Assistants work closely with our equine team to provide essential care for the horses at From the Ashes Horse Rescue and Rehabilitation. You will be an integral part of our daily operations, helping to ensure the safety, health, and well-being of each horse.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Feeding and providing fresh water for the horses.

    • Turning horses out to pasture and bringing them in when needed.

    • Cleaning stalls and maintaining clean barn aisles and feed rooms.

    • Grooming horses to ensure their comfort and well-being.

    • Assisting in health checks and monitoring the horses' condition.

    • Completing additional tasks as assigned by the barn manager or equine team.

    Experience and Skills:

    • Responsibilities will be tailored to match your prior horse experience and abilities.

    • Volunteers should have a willingness to learn, an attention to detail, and a genuine love for horses.

    • Volunteers must demonstrate a commitment to the safety and well-being of the horses and staff.

  • Volunteer Grooms work alongside our equine team to support the proper training, exercise, and care of the horses at From the Ashes Horse Rescue and Rehabilitation. You’ll be integral in helping the horses prepare for rehabilitation and adoption by providing hands-on grooming, exercise, and training assistance.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Grooming horses to maintain their coat, mane, and hooves.

    • Assisting with tacking up horses and preparing them for training and exercise.

    • Supporting training sessions by providing assistance during groundwork or under-saddle work, based on experience.

    • Exercising horses through groundwork, lunging, or riding, depending on your comfort and skill level.

    • Cleaning and maintaining tack, including saddles, bridles, and other equipment.

    • Organizing and cleaning the tack room to ensure equipment is properly stored and ready for use.

    • Assisting with additional tasks as assigned by the barn manager or training team.

    Experience and Skills:

    • Responsibilities will be tailored to your prior horse experience and abilities.

    • A willingness to learn and take direction from the equine team is essential.

    • Volunteers should be comfortable working with horses of various temperaments and skill levels.

    • Prior grooming or training experience is helpful but not required.

  • Main Office Volunteers work alongside our office staff to help ensure that From the Ashes Horse Rescue and Rehabilitation runs efficiently and effectively. This role supports our behind-the-scenes operations, assisting with administrative tasks to keep the organization organized and responsive.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Filing and organizing paperwork to maintain accurate records.

    • Performing data entry tasks, ensuring records are up-to-date and accurate.

    • Answering phone calls and providing general information about the rescue and its programs.

    • Assisting with inventory management, including tracking and restocking office and facility supplies.

    • Helping with preparation for events, including printing materials, organizing registration, and assisting with promotional tasks.

    • Assisting with other office-related tasks as assigned by staff.

    Experience and Skills:

    • Responsibilities will be adjusted based on your prior experience and abilities.

    • A strong attention to detail and the ability to stay organized is essential.

    • Good communication skills, especially over the phone and via email.

    • Familiarity with office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Docs) is helpful, but not required.

    • A willingness to learn and contribute to the smooth operation of our organization.

  • Event Planning Volunteers work alongside our office staff to plan, prepare, set up, and clean up events hosted by From the Ashes Horse Rescue and Rehabilitation. This role is essential in helping to create engaging, successful events that promote our mission and bring the community together.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Brainstorming event ideas and themes that align with our mission and goals.

    • Preparing the event site by organizing and setting up decorations, signage, and seating arrangements.

    • Ordering and managing event supplies, ensuring everything is in place for a smooth event.

    • Cleaning up the event site after the event concludes, including removing decorations and disposing of waste.

    • Representing the rescue at events, assisting with social networking, and promoting our cause to attendees.

    • Marketing events through social media, local flyers, and other promotional efforts.

    • Assisting with any additional event-related tasks as assigned by the office staff.

    Experience and Skills:

    • Responsibilities will be tailored based on your prior event planning experience and abilities.

    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.

    • Comfortable working with others in a team setting and assisting in both planning and event execution.

    • Experience with social media, marketing, or public relations is helpful but not required.

    • A positive attitude and willingness to take on a variety of tasks during event preparation and execution.

  • Social Media Volunteers work alongside our office staff to promote From the Ashes Horse Rescue and Rehabilitation through engaging content and community interaction. This role is key in helping raise awareness about our mission, share the stories of our horses, and attract potential adopters.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Creating content for our social media pages, including posts, stories, and videos that highlight our horses, events, and programs.

    • Editing and refining content to ensure it aligns with our brand and mission.

    • Brainstorming and contributing to marketing strategies to engage with the community and increase visibility.

    • Responding to comments and messages on social media platforms in a timely and professional manner.

    • Assisting with the design and refinement of graphics, including promotional images and event flyers.

    • Monitoring social media trends and helping integrate popular strategies to enhance engagement.

    • Assisting with additional tasks as assigned by the office staff.

    Experience and Skills:

    • Responsibilities will be adjusted based on your prior social media experience and abilities.

    • A good understanding of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) and how to engage audiences effectively.

    • Strong writing and communication skills.

    • Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Photoshop) is helpful but not required.

    • Creative thinking and a passion for storytelling are essential.

  • Role Overview:
    Maintenance Volunteers work alongside our maintenance team to ensure that From the Ashes Horse Rescue and Rehabilitation’s facility remains in top condition and is safe for both horses and people. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the functionality and cleanliness of the facility to ensure everything runs smoothly.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Repairing and maintaining equipment, buildings, and fences to ensure safety and functionality.

    • Dragging pastures and arenas to maintain proper footing for the horses.

    • Disposing of trash and recycling in accordance with our facility’s policies.

    • Mowing pastures and maintaining other landscaping areas.

    • Cleaning and organizing various areas of the facility, including barn aisles, feed rooms, and communal spaces.

    • Assisting with any additional tasks as assigned by the maintenance team or facility manager.

    Experience and Skills:

    • Responsibilities will be adjusted based on your prior maintenance experience and abilities.

    • General knowledge of tools and basic repair work is helpful.

    • Ability to perform manual labor and work outdoors in various weather conditions.

    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a safe and clean environment.

    • A willingness to learn and contribute to the upkeep of the facility.

After reviewing your application we will reach out to schedule an interview.

At the conclusion of the interview, we will register you for one of our volunteer orientation classes.

Once you have completed orientation you will be cleared to start volunteering the following week.

Please note that most volunteers are required to commit to at least one (1) hour per week

If you are interested in volunteering but cannot commit an hour each week events need more volunteers on a single-serve basis. Just check the option on the volunteer application.
